Description: RMS TITANIC Memorial maritime cover with pictorial postmark from Easton, MD dated November 10, 2013. Blue drawing printed on cachet #1944 for the 1912 sinking of this ill-fated ship by Alvin Eckert USCS #9964. Cover franked with a 45 cent flag stamp and a 3 cent wildlife stamp. Titanic: the ship sank after a night-time collision with an iceberg in the North Atlantic on April 15, 1912. The 883 foot White Star Line passenger ship was on her maiden voyage from England to New York City with 2,207 passengers and crew. She slowly went down in the frigid water, her twenty lifeboats were rated for 1,178 passengers but they saved only 705 persons. The loading of the lifeboats was very mismanaged and the severe list of the ship made loading difficult. This great loss of life, 1,502 persons were lost in the icy water, caused the British and US governments passed laws to improve future sea travel safety. Many books and a 1998 movie have fully portrayed this tragic event, and raised the public's awareness to the dangers of ocean travel. Seller has one other cover for this vessel.
