Description: RARE SIGNED WEBB HAWTHORNE DECORATED BURMESE ART GLASS MINIATURE LAMP A beautiful antique hand-made blown and hand painted Burmese art glass miniature lamp. It was made by Thomas Webb & Sons Glass in England in the late 19th century. The 100% hand painted floral pattern that decorates the lamp is called “Hawthorn”. The glass glows an intense lemon-yellow color under a black-light. There is no chimney with the lamp. The metal burner appears to me to be brass plated metal. The lamp is signed on the underside with an acid stamp inside the ground pontil mark. You can feel the mark with your finger, but it is extremely hard to read and I found it impossible to photograph. The mark is circular and reads: “THOS WEBB & SONS” in the center and that is ringed with the words: “QUEEN’S BURMESE WARE PATENTED”. The only other markings I can see on the lamp are on the round wheel or dial on the burner and that reads “THE P & A MFG CO ACORN”. I own the book Mt. Washington Art Glass plus Webb Burmese by Betty B. Sisk, but did not find this lamp pictured in this book or of the any of the other books I own or anywhere else for that matter. So, I believe it to be a rare piece. This piece has been in my personal collection since the year 2008. The lamp has great color and very attractive decoration and is gorgeous as you can see from the photos! I do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability. Some of my photos may be somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color. However, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, or with requests for additional pictures. I will get back to you as soon as I am able. I want your transaction with me to be exactly the way I want mine to be when I am the buyer. Please take a moment and visit our eBay store “TNK Antiques”. Age and Condition This piece dates to circa 1890. It is in very good to excellent condition. Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item. To me, everything looks all original and complete, except there is no chimney with the lamp. There is no damage whatsoever to the glass. The hand-painted decoration shows only some very minor signs of wear or use – see the photos. There is tarnish to the metal burner apparatus as well as some dents and dings – see the photos. The burner also appears to be bent slightly and sits a bit crooked depending on which way you turn the lamp. There is a woven cloth wick in the burner that looks old to me, but I am uncertain if this is original to the lamp. Please keep in mind the photos may be blown up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see will look 8-10 times larger in the photos than it really is. Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece. It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo. Approximate Dimensions The lamp is about 3” (8.9 cm) in diameter at its widest point and sits about 4.75” (12.1) off the table at the top of the burner. Approximate Weight About 6.25 ounces (180 grams). SALES TAX I am required to charge 6.5% Ohio State Sales Tax on all purchases shipped to an address within the State of Ohio.
