The Greek New Testament was presented to John Southgate Austin (who became a Reverend), in 1830, by David Williams (who was the Master of Winchester College at the time, later to become Warden of New College Oxford, and Vice-Chancellor of Oxford). It is an Oxford publication.Previously sold by Peter Harrington of London, their description (and price of 375 pounds) folded within.Physical Attributes - Measures approx. 14.7 x 8.9 x 2.5 cm, octavo. Red straight-grain morocco leather binding; boards framed with a double gilt fillet with corner florets. Spine with five raised bands, one compartment with the title in gilt, and at the base of the spine the year of publication and place. All edges gilt. Prize-ticket pasted to the front paste-down. Greek type. Condition - See pictures. Pretty binding, but with a little edge wear, sunning to spine, a few small nicks and a few pen marks on rear board; bottom corners just the slightest bumped. Prize ticket pasted to pastedown. Bookseller marks on blank front unpaginated endpaper (375 pounds!). A little toning, mostly at edges. Occasional rusting as is typical to paper of this period. There are several place-keeping cords, but their ties to the head of the spine have expired. Top edge of text block slightly darker.
