Description: 1899- 1917 Philippines United States administration Official Business handstamp on regular issues. This lot comprises seven ( 7 ) varieties used over a range of issues, all with manuscript markings which are far scarcer than the rubber stamped varieties ( see Scott note below ). A nice selection for the specialist in these issues. Excerpts from note in Scott catalog 2021 edition p. 264: Beginning January 1 1906 all branches of the Insular Government used postage stamps instead of franking them as before. Some used manuscript, some utilised typewriting machines, but by far the larger number provided themselves with rubber stamps. The majority of these read "O.B." but other forms were: "OFFICIAL MAIL" and "OFFICIAL BUSINESS" in two lines, with variations on many of these. These O.B. overprints are known on U.S. 1899-1901stamps, on 1901-1906 stamps in red and blue; on 1906 stamps in red blue black yellow and green. O.B. overprints were also made on the centavo and peso stamps of the Philippines per order of May 5 1907. End of excerpts from Scott note.
