Here we have a beautiful antique sterling silver STRING HOLDER made by GORHAM (and retailed by Baiiey, Banks & Biddle Co.) - displaying a round body with a curved top and a flat bottom. It has ornamental piercings/cut work all over as well as applied beaded rims (one row on top section, two rows on bottom section.) Top hole for threading the string (or thread.)There are several marks on the exterior bottom:Symbols > Lion - Anchor - G (Gorham marks, 12 o"clock position)B. B. & B. CO. (Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co. - Retailer, 12 o'clock position)STERLING (6 o'clock position)15 (3 o'clock position)☽ (Crescent Moon symbol, 9 o'clock position...denoting 1895) Also marked on the interior center top section, "15 ~ STERLING" (photo #9)It measures approx. 3" high x 3" in mid diameter.It is in good to very good maintained (lightly used/displayed) condition - commensurate with its age - with no dings or dents, and is being offered in "as found" condition. It has not been cleaned or polished since acquired, showing natural tarnishing and patina. [NOTE: The two pieces have a snug fit.]Came from a private home collection on many years, believed to be dated 1895. This item weighs approx. 1/4 lb., add 1-3/4 lbs. or so for the packing box and packing material. I combine shipping when safe and practical for all items purchased. Payment and shipping...
