The overall weather check and aged parts with a dirty look are the focus of attention, with a worn look around the Bigsby and ABR-1. Of course, the peeling finish on the top elbow and the peeling buckle scratches on the back of the body are also irresistible. The neck is a 1959 Les Paul neck shape with rolled binding. Tom Murphy and Gibson have scientifically analyzed the nitrocellulose lacquer of the 1950s and 1960s, which by its very nature changes over time to produce cracks called weather checking under the finish, unraveling the process of change and testing it on prototypes of various models to develop a lacquer process that reproduces the natural weather checking of vintage instruments.
