The league was formed by Abe Saperstein as an f I to the NBA. The NBA promised Saperstein a NBA franchise in LA for many years. Saperstein provided the NBA with double headers between the NBA and Saperstein’s teams. The NBA didn’t offer the Lakers to Saperstein. Saperstein used the cord of the National Industrisl Basketball League to form his American Basketball League in n 1961. The league folded before the finish of the league’s second season.
